Who Are We?

CHAD AND MARA

We have been married for ten years, and together for fifteen! One of Mara's students "fixed her up" with Chad during a high school playoff basketball game, and our destiny began.

CHAD

Chad wears many hats, but his favorite is a baseball cap. He currently is an assistant baseball coach at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.  He is also working towards his Master's Degree in Human Services, with a concentration in Clinical Counseling. During the day he works as Therapeutic Support Staff, which involves one-on-one interaction with children with behavioral needs requiring extra support and intervention from a specialist such as him.

MARA

Mara is a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

She is also a high school English teacher. During her career she has worked within urban, rural, and suburban schools. She has settled in at Schuylkill Haven Area High School, where she currently teaches 9th grade English, Advanced Placement English Literature, Speech, and Creative Writing.

She also writes a blog about rescuing dogs (and sometimes cats, turtles, and bunnies) as animal welfare is something near and dear to her heart.

TOGETHER

During our 15 years as a couple we have been lucky enough to find many things we enjoy together. We love to travel, especially enjoying new cultural experiences. We like to read books and discuss them with each other.

We love Penn State football and enjoy going to all kinds of different sporting events. We also like to take our dog Wiley for walks around our town,  enjoy having cookouts, and love to spend time with friends and family.

Our family is rounded out by our beautiful rescue dog Wiley, who is the face of a popular blog Mara writes called The Rescue Dog Blog,

and his sister Jenny, who showed up last summer in our yard with two kittens in tow.  We found loving homes for the kittens and kept Jenny.

We have a completed home study in the state of Pennsylvania and are working with an agency that can help us adopt from anywhere in the United States.  As prospective adoptive parents we are open to discussing various degrees of open adoption.
